Frequently Asked Questions About The Mason-Dixon Regiment

• HOW OLD MUST YOU BE TO BECOME A MEMBER ?

You may join at any age, however you must be 16 years of age or older to fire weapons and to serve on the mortar crew ( by permission of Parent or Guardian and Commanding Officer if under 18).

Younger members may be admitted on an individual basis in a non-firing capacity,

 A PARENT or GUARDIAN must be present at all activities…

 but a younger member can be a flag bearer or musician.

• WILL I NEED TO GET MY UNIFORM(s) IMMEDIATELY ?

No, but try to be in a basic uniform and have your basic accouterments to

start participating in reenactments within a year.

• WILL I NEED TO ATTEND EVERY EVENT TO REMAIN A MEMBER ?

No, in this Regiment it is not required. Family matters and work take precedence.

• BESIDES REENACTING, WHAT ELSE IS THIS UNIT INVOLVED IN ?

This unit participates in dedications, parades, living histories, memorial services

 and fund raising activities.

• HOW STRICT ARE YOU ABOUT AUTHENTICITY AND UNIT POLICY ?

We try to be as authentic as possible, no modern items are used in the open view of the public…

only when necessary.

• HOW MUCH ARE YOUR DUES ?

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP at present is $20 per individual per year  or  $35 per family per year.

            AN ADDITIONAL $7 per member per year for unit insurance is required for serving

            on the cannon, using musket powder, camp fires etc. that could cause injury.

• HOW ABOUT MY FAMILY ?

Your family is very welcome ! They are expected to follow the same rules

 as the membership does.

• WHAT DO YOU USE THE DUES FOR ?

To help purchase the insurance, primers, cannon powder and office supplies,

such as copy paper and stamps. ** Our dues are lower than most other units with insurance.

• ARE WOMEN ALLOWED TO PORTRAY SOLDIERS ?

Yes. In this unit, women may portray a soldier of the infantry, artillery or cavalry as long as they make an attempt to disguise themselves as male.

• CAN I PORTRAY MORE THAN ONE ROLE ?

Yes. You may portray any or all soldier and civilian roles if you wish. If you have a specialty to show, all the better.
